We're in bed with Cool Guides & The Sheet Society

Updated: May 3, 2021

With Chesca and Sophia Athas, via Cool Guides.

If you didn't already know, Hatrik House is in bed with Cool Guides. So much so, Chesca and Sophia let them into the bedroom for a 411 on interiors, decor and how a tie dye Sheet Society set fits the brief perfectly.

On the surface these stories might just look like a really cool apartment series featuring really cool people, but in reality it’s so much more than that. In Bed With is an excuse to live out the most thrilling voyeuristic dreams (and, let’s be real, yours too): snooping around the homes of people with exquisite taste, becoming a fly on the wall of their shopping habits and interior styling choices. In today’s edition, we visit the colourful, sunlit household of Sophia, founder and creative director of The House.

Organised chaos is the name of the game at Sophia's eclectic, beachside home. Her preference for ‘more is more’ should come as no great surprise to anyone who is familiar with @hatrikkk, where she’s been infusing technicolour fun into branding and campaigns since the House opened it's doors.

We took a peek inside her pastel bedroom, then hung out on the couch (her favourite spot to chill) as the sunshine spilled in through the windows. See how many of her treasured knicknacks you can spy in the gallery below.

What is your elevator pitch? (I.e. who are you and what do you do?)

I’m Sophia Athas, the creative director of Hatrik House. We work with brands to bring products to life and launch ideas into the market. Our team is young, in touch and on the pulse! We move fast and I loveeee it.

Where does your mind go when you hear the word ‘home’?

Comfortable, a safe haven and somewhere to relax. It’s a space to be okay with doing nothing at all, and somewhere you’re dying to come home to after a long day.

How would you describe your home in five words?

Eclectic, colourful, mis-matched, inspiring and welcoming.

What kinds of things do you think about when you’re decorating?

How people feel when they are in my space. I like people feeling comfortable and interested in my furniture and knickknacks.

Is there any correlation between your personal style and your approach to decorating?

Yes, I think my personal style is a nice mix of colour, textures, and old and new. My apartment definitely reflects this. I don’t try to be too minimal (this doesn’t seem to work for me) and I have my bags/shoes/jewellery all over the place. It’s definitely an organised chaos.

What is your most treasured possession and why?

I have two NYC subway posters framed in my bedroom. My sister Poody bought them for me while we were in NYC and they remind me of her.

Where is your favourite spot in your home to chill, and why?

On my couch in the sun. The mornings are the best, with a coffee and a podcast in the background! I live really close to the beach. If I’m ever feeling overwhelmed or stressed, walking down to see the horizon is a big cure.

Best place online/IRL to score a bargain?

1stdibs—I love finding one-off pieces and knickknacks. They are unique and it means often others don’t have the same thing :).

What are your hot tips for styling a bedroom?

I think more is more. I don’t like an empty space; I find it intimidating and cold. Soft furnishings are important (pastel curtains and coloured bed sheets), as well as nice lighting.

On the Marie Kondo to hoarder spectrum, where do you sit?

I’m more of a hoarder but secretly wish I could go full Marie Kondo.

Best Sunday morning read?

I love a print magazine, Vogue Australia. Or my current book, I’m reading Cult Status by Tim Duggan.

I love looking through high end magazines or blogs. Even though these types of properties or spaces aren’t in my budget, you can try to replicate the vibes for cheap. I love Studio Alm and Dello Studio.

What are your morning and nighttime rituals?

Mornings are my favourite time of the day, I love my first coffee and making a list of what I have to get done that day. Night time, it's tea and reading in bed. I try to choose this over a screen because it helps me switch off without distractions.

What is the best piece of decorating wisdom you’ve ever received?

Don’t copy people, just choose what makes you happy. It doesn’t matter If it doesn’t ‘fit in’ with the rest of the space, make it work.
